In 2017, we republished a book called Ad Alpes - A Tale of Roman Life. It is a sort of Latin novel from the 1920’s written at an upper intermediate / advanced level Latin. It consists of a frame story that follows a Roman family on their way long journey. During the trip, they tell each other stories and visit famous places. These stories are from all over Roman literature but they are vowen into the narrative, with some adaptations, in such a way that you don’t really realise you’re reading passages from Suetonius, Tacitus, Nepos, Livy, Pliny, and many others.

It is, to my mind, an extraordinary book that is worth reading and listening to again and again. The Latin used in it is excellent and the notes explaining it ample.
This has been our most requested book since launching Legentibus. I made an audiobook of it back when we published the print book years ago but we have not published it here on Legentibus. Why? It’s been many years since I originally recorded it, almost ten, actually and I am no longer satisfied with that recording.
This is why I am re-recording it for our Legentibus version.
I think it’s turning out great. The book is an absolute pleasure to read and listen, even after countless times.
The recording process has been fun but grueling, I’ll tell you more about that in a later post.
The book is very long so we will release it in three installments. The first volume containing chapters 1–12 is almost done. The runtime of it will be about 2 hours and 10 minutes. It just needs some light editing.
