Castellum

I’m work­ing on an illus­tra­tion of an aux­il­iary fort for the new ver­sion of the Leg­en­tibus course. Two things struck me whilst draw­ing:

1. Roman forts look more like medieval forts than one might think. (Even though I knew this from before, actu­al­ly putting the lines on paper makes it so much more real)
2. Draw­ing a fos­sa (the ditch sur­round­ing the fort) is ‑to my own sur­prise — prob­a­bly the most dif­fi­cult thing I’ve ever drawn. Hope­ful­ly the word fos­sa will be eas­i­er to learn for all of you, than it is to illus­trate!
