Augus­tine of Hip­po (354–430 AD) stands as one of the most influ­en­tial fig­ures in West­ern Chris­tian­i­ty and phi­los­o­phy.

In Book 8 of his Con­fes­siones, he describes his final strug­gle toward con­ver­sion to Chris­tian­i­ty and recounts his intel­lec­tu­al accep­tance of Chris­t­ian doc­trine but emo­tion­al inabil­i­ty to ful­ly com­mit. Which path will he ulti­mate­ly choose?
